Gamblin Accents on the Figure Oil Paint Set
USD 92.10

Historically a colorman showed painters a fairly narrow range of oil colors for figure painting. Most colors available before the mid 19th centure were Earth Oranges Yellows and Reds with low intensity and near neutral values. Painters continue using Earth colors because they are the easiest colors to use for recreating skin tones. Regardless of ethnicity all skin types are fundamentally shades of Earth Orange hues. These oil paints can be mixed int as many different orange colors as needed to paint the base of all skin tones. Gamblin acknowledges the portrait painters obsession with creating translucency in the skin. The best white oil color for controlling the opacity of the paint layers is Flake White Replacement. This set included one 37ml tube each of Flake White Replacement Gold Ochre Transparent Earth Orange Caucasian Flesh Tone Venetian Red Alizarin Permanent Ultramarine Blue Olive Green and Asphaltum. Also included are one 2oz bottle each of Galkyd Slow Drying Medium Neo Megilp Painting Medium and Gamsol odorless mineral spirits. A copy of Robert Gamblins DVD on how to turn color theory into color mixing called Navigating Color Space is also included.

Painting with Water-Soluble Oils
USD 31.60

Water-soluble oil paints have hit the market by storm. First came odor-free turpentine, which is mild but not exactly odor-free for more sensitive artists. Then some creative chemist figured out how to mix oil and water. Don't ask how, but it works. This has begun to open up the oil painting field to painters who like the results of oil painting but don't like the chemicals. Some faithful watercolor artists are also sure to give these new paints a try. Sean Dye explains everything the painter needs to know to paint successfully with these new paints. Painters eager to venture into the world of odor free oil painting are introduced to the physical characteristics of the paint itself and how it differs from other mediums. Mini-demos, with step-by-step instruction, show format methods and techniques for using this medium with various tools and surfaces. Paint mixing with traditional oils and other water-based mediums is also covered. A variety of artists demonstrate how these exciting new paints can be used to create handsome paintings in a variety of styles.

Williamsburg Oil Paint Titanium White 150ml tube
USD 27.16

Williamsburg Handmade Oil Colorsâ¦Carl Plansky founder and owner of Williamsburg Paints has always been interested in pigments oils mediums and old-world recipes. Wherever he traveled he would research the history of painting and the relationship between painters and paintmakers. In France he bought colors from the houses that made paints for Monet Matisse and Cezanne. Carl analyzed their paint to see how fine or coarse the grind was and to determine where they found their pigments and oils. With this same passion he searches for the most beautiful raw materials in the world importing pigments from dozens of countries. Getting the proper pigment is just the beginning. So much of the quality of oil paint is in the grinding. Each color is ground to enhance the beauty and luminosity specific to that particular pigment. Some of our paint will feel slightly gritty; some extremely smooth. Our Cerulean Blue will have a beautiful velvet light-absorbing surface with an extremely strong covering power; our siennas will often be chunky or gritty to allow light to travel through the vehicle exposing rich golden or mahogany undertones instead of just heavy dull browns. Employing the techniques of 19th century French colormakers Plansky''''s pigments are made in small batches ensuring the ultimate in quality control.

Analysis of Modern Paints (Research in Conservation)
USD 36.99

Although oil remains an important binding medium in artists' paints, today's synthetic resins are being used with increasing frequency. This was true during much of the twentieth century, when artists such as David Alfaro Siqueiros, Jackson Pollock, and Pablo Picasso used commercial or industrial paints based on synthetic resins. The growing popularity of synthetic resin materials carries important implications for the conservation, preservation, and treatment of modern art. This volume outlines the techniques that are currently employed to analyze the synthetic resins used in modern painting materials, such as pyrolysis-gas chromatography-mass spectrometry, Fourier Transform infrared spectroscopy, and direct temperature-resolved mass spectrometry. For each technique, results are given for standard samples of the principal classes of synthetic binding media, various pigments and extenders, tube paint formulations, and microscopic paint fragments taken from actual works of art. Primarily intended for conservation scientists, conservators, researchers, and students of conservation, this book will also be of interest to other museum professionals.

Help prevent quiet chemical spill
Local residents can't stop the Gulf oil spill, but they can help protect the planet by properly disposing of household hazardous waste. When improperly discarded, products such as batteries, paints, cleaners, oils, and pesticides contaminate the air, water and sometimes even the food supply.
