Can you paint over re-touch varnish on an Oil Painting?
Also, can you put regular varnish over re-touch varnish?
Finally, why does it say on the bottle of my winsor-newton bottle of re-touch varnish that it's only for "temporary"?
Ugh...I wish I had kept my notes from college...
Yes, you can varnish over re-touch. I have never had a problem as long as you keep the layers of varnish fairly thin. Too much will look too goopy and glossy.
Retouch varnish is meant to be a temporary varnish, just to get the dried Paint Colors to look as if they were wet so you can do touch ups with some accuracy. "Regular" varnish is permanent, to be applied when your painting is done.
